Lower Back Pain Mainly in the Mornings: What it Means

You get up in the morning and your back hurts.  You wake up an hour before the alarm goes off not because you are rested but because your back hurts.   As if getting up wasn’t bad enough, suffering from lower back pain mainly in the mornings only serves to make your mornings more difficult and unpleasant.  If you have been suffering from lower back pain mainly in the mornings you need to consider getting a new mattress!

A New Mattress and Lumbar Support

When you are suffering from lower back pain mainly in the mornings this tells you that there is something that is not working out between your body and your mattress.  If you are on a budget you might want to ignore the problem.  But, ignoring the problem will only mean that you will continue to wake up with a sore back.  Buying a new mattress is the only way to get rid of that morning back pain.

If you have a mattress that is more than 10 years old, you need to get a new one as soon as possible!  If you don’t replace the mattress not only will you still continue to be in pain each morning, your pain will get worse with tine,  Mattresses simply were not intended for anything other than comfort, and over time the comfort associated with the mattress dwindles and it needs to be replaced.

You also need to think about the type of mattress that you choose.  Your initial thought may be to buy a fluffy and soft mattress.  The problem is that the soft mattress will not provide the support that you need to get a restful night sleep.  The bottom line is that the softer the bed is, the more back pain you are going to experience.  On a soft bed there is no structure for your body, and that is where the pain comes from.

It’s true, a hard mattress may not seem as appealing.  The fact of the matter is that a much more firm mattress is more beneficial because it will hold all of your muscles together so you don’t have that lower back pain mostly in the mornings.  Your mattress shouldn’t be too hard either, instead it should be the right softness to conform to the shape of your body to provide maximum support.

If you aren’t sure what kind of mattress to buy, you should visit your local mattress store.  The customer service representative will be able to help you figure out what type of mattress you need for your body.  There are many different brands, but don’t worry about brands, worry about the mattress that is going to help you avoid those morning aches and pain.
